At Hackettstown Medical Center's Total Joint Center, our goal is to guide you every step of the way as you "discover the new you!"
With each of our joint replacement patients, we focus on the fact that you're not here due to an illness, but rather for a life-changing procedure that will help you regain your mobility and quality of life. Careful planning, state-of-the-art procedures and compassionate care close to home are the keys, and we're equipped to offer all of these to you as a joint replacement patient.
Pre-operative seminars will cover pre-admission testing to discharge planning-and everything in between. We know you'll have questions and we'll be prepared to answer all of them. The seminars are held at the medical center, and are strongly recommended for all joint replacement patients. You are welcome and encouraged to bring a family member or friend along to the seminar.
During the pre-operative seminar, we'll work with you on your discharge plan so you'll know what to expect. In most cases, the plan will be for you to be discharged home after three nights in the hospital, with a visiting physical therapist in your home. You'll receive a list of simple, yet important things to do to prepare your home to make your recovery as smooth as possible.
Our Case Management nurses will work with you to ensure that all of your equipment needs will be met once your are discharged home.
While in the hospital, your recovery process will begin the day of your surgery, with light exercises performed in your bed. Physical Therapy will begin the following morning and will continue twice a day, throughout your stay.
Pain management is a very important part of your recovery and we'll be sure that your pain is consistently monitored and managed as well as possible. We offer the MOD, Medication on Demand, pain medication dispensary device. click here
We encourage each of our total joint patients to make themselves as home during their stay. This includes getting out of the hospital gown and into your own comfortable clothes, soon after surgery.
If you need brief in-patient rehabilitation following your hospital stay, we have relationships with several local rehabilitation centers and will coordinate this process seamlessly for you.
Physical therapy is an essential step in the process following joint replacement, and all of your outpatient physical therapy needs will be met at our Therapy Center, located right next to the hospital in the Willow Grove Medical Plaza. You'll be scheduled for your first outpatient physical therapy session prior to being discharged.
