Hackettstown Medical Center Earns Quality Respiratory Care Recognition...again!
For seven consecutive years, Hackettstown Medical Center's Cardiopulmonary Department has earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) through a national program designed to help patients make informed decisions about the quality of respiratory care services available in hospitals. Approximately 15% of hospitals in the United States have applied for and received this award.
The QRCR program was started by the American Association for Respiratory Care in 2003 to help consumers identify those facilities using qualified respiratory therapists to provide respiratory care. Hospitals earning the QRCR designation ensure patient safety by agreeing to adhere to a strict set of criteria governing their respiratory care services.
Respiratory therapists are specially trained health care professionals who work under physician's orders to provide a wide range of breathing treatments and other services to people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, AIDS and other lung conditions. Respiratory therapists are also key members of lifesaving response teams charged with handling medical emergencies.
Breathing Difficulties? Our Better Breathers Club Can Help!
For those who have breathing difficulties, even simple day-to-day activities that others may find easy can often seem daunting. The good news is that Hackettstown Medical Center's Cardiopulmonary Department offers a Better Breathers Club - an informal, yet structured support group, with a mix of planned topics intermixed with freeform discussion.
Attendees share tips and experiences with each other and that can be extremely helpful to someone who may have previously felt as though they were the only one dealing with the challenges of difficult breathing. Learning how to control the anxiety associated with difficult breathing is particularly helpful, and simple breathing exercises are shared, all in a safe, caring environment. An added benefit to attendees is the fact that personal relationships are formed with members of our Cardiopulmonary staff, making future care at Hackettstown Medical Center even more familiar and comfortable.
There are no requirements to attend a certain number of Better Breathers Club meetings - people simply attend as they are able. New members are welcome at all times, there is no fee to attend, and light refreshments are served. In addition to those with lung disease, the Better Breathers Club has also proven to be helpful to family members of those with lung disease.
The Better Breathers Club meets the second Thursday of every month at 1:30 p.m. in the Joan Knechel Cancer Center Conference Room, which is accessible via the rear West Wing entrance. For more information about the Better Breathers Club, Pulmonary Rehabilitation or any of Hackettstown Medical Center's Cardiopulmonary services, call Debbie Spadafora at 908-441-1192.
